Laurel Oaks Presents at 36th Annual Mental Health Conference

Brent Cosby, marketing and community education coordinator at Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center, a Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) facility, recently led workshops at the Alabama Council of Community Mental Health Boards’ 2010 conference.

Cosby made two presentations at conference, entitled “Pushing the Impossible,” and “Pureeing the Blended Family.” In his “Pureeing the Blended Family” session, Cosby discussed some of the difficulties involved with parenting. He provided suggestions on how to best work through issues that often arise in various family structures. Attendees to the “Pushing the Impossible” session learned helpful tips on how to encourage children who are unmotivated in the classroom. At previous conferences, Cosby has also presented on additional parenting subjects, including children behavioral health topics, and suicide awareness and prevention.

For many years, Cosby has acted as a community educator for Laurel Oaks, giving presentations on various behavioral health issues in Dothan and around the region. Families, schools and community organizations rely on him to provide beneficial information on behavioral health and related matters.

Laurel Oaks exhibited at the conference, which is an annual event for mental health professionals, social workers, counselors, nurses, educators, psychologists, psychiatrists, consumers, juvenile justice professionals and other related community members. In its 36th year, the conference is an opportunity for attendees to meet with mental health agencies and attend workshops on timely mental health topics. More than 800 people attended this year’s conference, which was hosted by the Alabama Council of Community Mental Health Boards and The Institute for Continuing Education. Laurel Oaks, and fellow PSI facility, Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services, were sponsors of the event.
